C8.3.6.1.5.3. Shall take into account the ergonomic or health needs of the<br />

C8.3.6.1.5.4. Can be adapted to the users, according to their needs<br />

C8.3.6.1.6. Anatomical Pathology Waste<br />

C8.3.6.1.6.1. All anatomical pathology waste must be collected and sealed in<br />

reinforced plastic bags at the place of origin; the bags shall comply with C8.3.6.2.1. The sealed<br />

bags must be kept in a controlled environment and transported with caution, and may only be<br />

disposed of by incineration or cremation followed by burial.<br />

C8.3.6.1.7. Blood & Liquid Infectious Waste<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.1. Blood, blood products, and other liquid infectious wastes shall be<br />

handled as follows:<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.2. Samples of blood, urine, or feces may be decanted into clinical<br />

sinks if non-infectious.<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.3. Disposal options for suction canister waste from operating rooms,<br />

bulk blood, blood products, and other liquid infectious medical waste are the following:<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.3.1 Sealed in leak-proof containers and incinerated;<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.3.2 Sterilized and incinerated;<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.3.3 Sterilized and landfilled. Landfilling of sterilized infectious<br />

medical waste is permitted only in the absence of an incinerator in the Region where the waste is<br />

generated and it requires the prior approval of the President of the Region.<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.4. Disposal of blood or liquid infectious medical waste through<br />

clinical sinks is not allowed (other than samples of blood, urine, and feces, if non-infectious).<br />

C8.3.6.1.7.5. Disposal of liquid waste generated by non-medical facilities but<br />

presenting analogous infection risk (e.g., wastes from microbiological laboratories), through<br />

sinks is not allowed. Such waste shall be sterilized, sealed in leak-proof containers, and/or<br />

incinerated.<br />

C8.3.6.1.8. Compaction<br />

C8.3.6.1.8.1. Infectious medical waste will not be compacted unless converted<br />

to non-infectious medical waste by treatment as described in paragraph C8.3.6.7. Containers<br />

holding sharps will not be compacted.<br />
