<strong>ITALY</strong> - 11 Pesticides<br />

C11.3.1.2.2. For stored vegetal foodstuff: used equipment and/or method, reason<br />

for application<br />

C11.3.1.2.3. Local National certified pesticide applicators shall also record their<br />

pesticide application information related to food and crops in a Pesticide Application Register.<br />

The register shall be signed by the pesticide applicator and shall remain at the user site or in the<br />

administrative office.<br />

C11.3.2. Installations will implement and maintain a current pest management plan that<br />

includes measures for all installation activities and satellite sites that perform pest control. This<br />

written plan will include IPM procedures for preventing pest problems in order to minimize the<br />

use of pesticides. The plan must be reviewed and approved in writing by the appropriate pest<br />

management consultant. Italian regional pesticide limitations shall be incorporated into the plan.<br />

C11.3.3. All pesticide applications will be made by certified pesticide applicators, with the<br />

following exceptions:<br />

C11.3.3.1. New DoD employees who are not certified may apply pesticides that are not<br />

classified as toxic, very toxic or harmful during an apprenticeship period not to exceed 2 years<br />

and only under the supervision of a certified pesticide applicator;<br />

C11.3.3.2. Arthropod skin and clothing repellents; and<br />

C11.3.3.3. Pesticides applied as part of an installation’s self-help program that are not<br />

classified as toxic, very toxic or harmful.<br />

C11.3.4. All pesticide applicators will be included in a medical surveillance program to<br />

monitor the health and safety of persons occupationally exposed to pesticides.<br />

C11.3.5. All pesticide applicators will be provided with personal protective equipment<br />

appropriate for the work they perform and the types of pesticides to which they may be exposed.<br />

C11.3.6. Installations will only use registered pesticides that are on the list approved by the<br />

Armed Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) that have Italian approved equivalents (i.e.,<br />

same manufacturer and same formulations), or Italian registered pesticides approved in writing<br />

by the appropriate pest management consultant. This may be documented as part of the approval<br />

of the pest management plan.<br />

C11.3.7. Pesticides will be included in the installation spill contingency plan. (See Chapter<br />

18, “Spill Prevention and Response Planning.”)<br />

C11.3.8. Pest management facilities, including mixing and storage areas, will comply with<br />

Armed Forces Pest Management Board Technical Guide No. 17, “Military Handbook - Design<br />

of Pest Management Facilities.”<br />

C11.3.9. All pesticide applications will be in accordance with guidance given on the<br />

pesticide label. Labels of U.S. products will bear the appropriate use instructions and<br />

precautionary message based on the toxicity category of the pesticide ("danger/pericolo,"<br />

"warning/attenzione," or "caution/avvertimento"). If Local Nationals will be using the<br />
