<strong>ITALY</strong> - 8 Medical Waste Management<br />

C8.2.21. Urban Waste. Waste produced in urban (municipal) areas, including:<br />

C8.2.21.1. Residential waste, including bulky waste from households or housing units<br />

C8.2.21.2. Non-hazardous waste that is not generated by households, but that can be<br />

considered as urban waste in terms of quality and quantity, according to the provisions listed in<br />

the waste management regulation issued by the local Municipality<br />

C8.2.21.3. Waste from street-cleaning activities<br />

C8.2.21.4. Any type of waste from any public area such as roads, parks, beaches, lake<br />

shores, river shores, or similar public areas<br />

C8.2.21.5. Yard waste from gardens, parks, and cemeteries, including trees, branches,<br />

and stumps<br />

C8.2.21.6. Wastes from exhumation and any other waste from cemetery areas different<br />

from those in numbers 2, 3, and 4 above<br />

C8.2.21.7. Septic pump-out waste is excluded from the definition of urban waste.<br />

C8.2.22. Waste Generator. A generator is considered to be the entity whose processes or<br />

actions generate waste.<br />

C8.2.23. Waste Loading and Unloading Register. A specific and dedicated log book, kept<br />

at the installation, used to record all waste transfers, which includes all onsite “loading”<br />

operations (i.e., data on waste temporarily stored at the site including waste code, amount and<br />

date of storage) and all “unloading” operations undertaken at the site (i.e. data on waste shipped<br />

off-site for disposal/recovery/recycling, including waste code, amount shipped, date of transport,<br />

and name of waste carrier). Waste collected by the municipality is not required to be recorded<br />

on this waste register.<br />

C8.2.24. Waste Manifest. A specific form used to track the shipment of special waste from<br />

its point of origin to its point of disposal.<br />

C8.2.25. WSA Manager. A person on the installation with the operational responsibility<br />

for receiving, storing, inspecting, and generally managing the installation's WSA.<br />

C8.3. CRITERIA<br />

C8.3.1. Waste Classification. Waste generating activities will classify their waste streams<br />

using the USEUCOM Waste List. Laboratory analysis shall be used to identify the chemical<br />

constituents of unknown wastes.<br />

C8.3.2. Waste Analysis Plan. The TWSA/WSA manager, in conjunction with the<br />

installation(s) served, will develop a plan to determine how and when wastes are to be analyzed.<br />

The waste analysis plan will also include procedures for characterization and verification testing<br />
