<strong>ITALY</strong> - 7 Solid Waste<br />

C7.2.32. Temporary Waste Storage Area (TWSA). A non-permitted area located within<br />

the installation fenceline where temporary waste accumulation and storage activities occur (to<br />

include hazardous and non-hazardous waste) before being transferred to a WSA site or picked-up<br />

for off-site shipment. Each TWSA must be designated as either volume limited or time limited,<br />

as described below.<br />

C7.2.32.1. Volume Limited TWSA. Waste can be stored for up to 1 year if quantities ≤<br />

30 m 3 (1,059 ft 3 ), of which ≤ 10 m 3 (353.14 ft 3 ), shall be for hazardous waste; or<br />

C7.2.32.2. Time Limited TWSA. Waste exceeding the volume specified in C7.2.34.1<br />

may only be stored for a period of up to three months. The duration may be extended to one year<br />

if the deposit is located on a small island.<br />

C7.2.32.3. The temporary deposit of waste shall ensure the segregation of waste types<br />

with respect to technical-military standards governing the management of the dangerous<br />

substances contained in the waste.<br />

C7.2.32.4. Military waste is defined in the list above for Special Waste and waste<br />

originated from military vessels and installations supporting the military defense and national<br />

security cannot be held in a TWSA longer than 12 months, regardless of the quantity.<br />

C7.2.33. Transporter. The permitted person, agent, or company who physically transports<br />

waste on public roads.<br />

C7.2.34. Unique Generator Identification Number. The generator identification is<br />

accomplished using the Unique Identification Number assigned by the Italian authorities.<br />

C7.2.35. Unique Identification Number. A unique number that the Italian authorities issue<br />

to any citizen, company, or public body (including foreign citizens residing in Italy) doing<br />

business or having related activities in Italy. The 16-digit number is required when filing<br />

numerous public and private documents. It can be compared to the U.S. Social Security Number.<br />

C7.2.36. Unique Waste Identification Code. The six-digit Waste Code (CER) listed in the<br />

USEUCOM Waste List that is provided for each waste. This number is used by installations to<br />

identify a known waste and to ease the waste management and record-keeping process.<br />

C7.2.37. Urban Waste. Waste produced in urban (municipal) areas, including:<br />

C7.2.37.1. Residential waste, including bulky waste from households or housing units<br />

C7.2.37.2. Non-hazardous waste that is not generated by households, but that can be<br />

considered as urban waste in terms of quality and quantity, according to the provisions listed in<br />

the waste management regulation issued by the local Municipality<br />

C7.2.37.3. Waste from street-cleaning activities<br />

C7.2.37.4. Any type of waste from any public area such as roads, parks, beaches, lake<br />

shores, river shores, or similar public areas<br />
