ITALY - 6 Hazardous Waste
quart) of acute hazardous waste, from each waste stream. The HWAP must be at or near the
point of waste generation and under the control of the operator.
C6.2.15. Hazardous Waste Log. A listing of hazardous waste deposited and removed from
a Temporary Waste Storage Area (TWSA) or Waste Storage Area (WSA). Information such as
the waste type, volume, location, and storage removal dates should be recorded. (Note: This is
distinct from the Waste Loading and Unloading Register).
C6.2.16. Hazardous Waste Profile Sheet (HWPS). A document that identifies and
characterizes the waste by providing user's knowledge of the waste, and/or lab analysis, and
details the physical, chemical, and other descriptive properties or processes which created the
hazardous waste.
C6.2.17. Landfill. Disposal site for the deposit of the waste onto or into land (i.e.,
underground), including:
C6.2.17.1. Internal waste disposal sites (i.e., a landfill where a generator of waste is
carrying out its own waste disposal at the place of production); and
C6.2.17.2. Permanent sites (i.e. operating longer than one year) which are not used for
temporary storage of waste, but excluding:
C6.2.17.3. Facilities where waste is unloaded in preparation for further transport for
recovery, treatment or disposal elsewhere; and
C6.2.17.4. Storage of waste prior to recovery or treatment for a period < three years as a
general rule; or
C6.2.17.5. Storage of waste prior to disposal for a period < one year.
C6.2.18. Landfill for Non-hazardous and Non-reactive Hazardous Waste. Landfill
specifically designed to accept non-hazardous waste (including waste containing mineral fibers;
waste containing gypsum; waste with a dry-substance content not lower than 25%; waste whose
leachate meets established standards) and stable, non-reactive hazardous waste whose leachate
meets established standards and whose Total Organic Compounds concentration is lower than
5%).
C6.2.19. Landfill for Hazardous Waste. Landfill specifically designed to accept only
hazardous waste (including hazardous waste with a dry-substance content not lower than 25%,
hazardous waste whose leachate meets established standards, waste containing or contaminated
with PCB in concentration lower than 50 ppm, waste containing or contaminated with dioxins
and/or furans in concentration lower than 10 ppb, waste whose Total Organic Compounds
concentration for reactive substances is lower than 5%).
C6.2.20. Leachate. Any liquid percolating through the deposited waste and emitted from
or contained within a landfill.
C6.2.21. Medical Waste. Refer to Chapter 8, “Medical Waste.”
