C13. CHAPTER 13
NATURAL RESOURCES AND ENDANGERED SPECIES
This Chapter establishes criteria for required plans and programs needed to ensure proper
protection, enhancement, and management of natural resources and any species (flora or fauna)
declared endangered or threatened by either the U.S. or Italian governments.
C13.2. DEFINITIONS
C13.2.1. Area Subject to Landscape Protection. These areas include:
C13.2.1.1. Premises with relevant public interest. Environmental resources (i.e.,
gardens, parks, landscapes) which stand out for their particular beauty, historical and cultural
relevance.
C13.2.1.2. Environmental resources which fall under the following categories:
C13.2.1.2.1. First 300 m (984 ft) of territory from sea’s edge
C13.2.1.2.2. First 300 m (984 ft) of territory from lake’s edge
C13.2.1.2.3. Rivers, torrents and water bodies, including the first 150 m (492 ft)
from their edge
C13.2.1.2.4. Part of mountains beyond 1,600 m (5,249 ft) for Alps and beyond
1,200 m (3,937 ft) for Apennines and Italian islands
areas
C13.2.1.2.5. Glaciers
C13.2.1.2.6. National or regional reserves and parks, including applicable buffer
C13.2.1.2.7. Woodland and forests
C13.2.1.2.8. Wetlands
C13.2.1.2.9. Volcanoes
C13.2.1.2.10. Archeological areas
C13.2.2. Conservation. Planned management, use, and protection; continued benefit for
present and future generations; and prevention of exploitation, destruction, and/or neglect of
natural resources.
