<strong>ITALY</strong> - 4 Wastewater<br />

C4.3.1.6.7.4.1 In addition, in the Veneto Region discharge onto soil<br />

of domestic wastewater from conglomerates associated with a number of inhabitant equivalents (IE)<br />

≥ 50 IE and lower than threshold values of IE listed in Table 4.1.1-b is allowed only if the distance<br />

to the closest surface water body is > 1,000 m (3,281 ft).<br />

C4.3.1.7. Discharge of any wastewater directly into the subsurface or groundwater is<br />

prohibited with the exception of the following:<br />

C4.3.1.7.1. Water used in geothermal exploration<br />

C4.3.1.7.2. Water generated during hydrocarbon exploration<br />

C4.3.1.7.3. Infiltration water in mines and quarries<br />

C4.3.1.7.4. Water used for the washing and working activities on aggregates<br />

C4.3.1.7.5. Water pumped during engineering projects, including thermal<br />

exchange systems<br />

C4.3.1.7.6. Other exceptions for the discharge at sea of water generated during<br />

hydrocarbon explorations (limit of 40 mg/L of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH))<br />

C4.3.1.8. Discharge onto soil or shallow subsoil of the following substances is<br />

prohibited:<br />

C4.3.1.8.1. Organic-halogenated compounds and substances which may give<br />

origin to such compounds in water<br />

in water<br />

C4.3.1.8.2. Organic-phosphoric compounds<br />

C4.3.1.8.3. Organic-stannous compounds<br />

C4.3.1.8.4. Substances with carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic properties<br />

C4.3.1.8.5. Mercury and its compounds<br />

C4.3.1.8.6. Cadmium and its compounds<br />

C4.3.1.8.7. Persistent mineral oils and hydrocarbons<br />

C4.3.1.8.8. Cyanides<br />

C4.3.1.8.9. Persistent materials able to float, to remain suspended, or to sink and<br />

that may disturb any type of use of waters<br />

C4.3.1.9. The discharge directly to groundwater of the following additional substances<br />

is also prohibited:<br />
