ITALY - 4 Wastewater
C4.3.1.6.7.4.1 In addition, in the Veneto Region discharge onto soil
of domestic wastewater from conglomerates associated with a number of inhabitant equivalents (IE)
≥ 50 IE and lower than threshold values of IE listed in Table 4.1.1-b is allowed only if the distance
to the closest surface water body is > 1,000 m (3,281 ft).
C4.3.1.7. Discharge of any wastewater directly into the subsurface or groundwater is
prohibited with the exception of the following:
C4.3.1.7.1. Water used in geothermal exploration
C4.3.1.7.2. Water generated during hydrocarbon exploration
C4.3.1.7.3. Infiltration water in mines and quarries
C4.3.1.7.4. Water used for the washing and working activities on aggregates
C4.3.1.7.5. Water pumped during engineering projects, including thermal
exchange systems
C4.3.1.7.6. Other exceptions for the discharge at sea of water generated during
hydrocarbon explorations (limit of 40 mg/L of total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH))
C4.3.1.8. Discharge onto soil or shallow subsoil of the following substances is
prohibited:
C4.3.1.8.1. Organic-halogenated compounds and substances which may give
origin to such compounds in water

C4.3.1.8.2. Organic-phosphoric compounds
C4.3.1.8.3. Organic-stannous compounds
C4.3.1.8.4. Substances with carcinogenic, mutagenic or teratogenic properties
C4.3.1.8.5. Mercury and its compounds
C4.3.1.8.6. Cadmium and its compounds
C4.3.1.8.7. Persistent mineral oils and hydrocarbons
C4.3.1.8.8. Cyanides
C4.3.1.8.9. Persistent materials able to float, to remain suspended, or to sink and
that may disturb any type of use of waters
C4.3.1.9. The discharge directly to groundwater of the following additional substances
is also prohibited:
