disniution in the existing flow paths. These recommendations have been incorporated along<br />

with installation <strong>of</strong> two additional differential uressure gapes with the Room 170 differential<br />

pressure page. The second differential Dressure m e is bein? installed to measure differential<br />

pressure between the inlet Dortion <strong>of</strong> the plenum and an atmosuheric reference. Ths<br />

measurement provides an indication that a main plenum exhaust fan is runninp. A third<br />

differential uressure ?age is being installed to measure the differential uressure across the<br />

Building 99 1 ventilation svstem exhaust Dlenum. This measurement provides an indication that<br />

the plenum sinple stage <strong>of</strong> ffEPA filtration is unblocked.<br />

Certain faciliw configurations have been identified that do not vield desirable negative<br />

pressure in Room 147 and 170. This situation results when (1) the Room 170 dock doors are<br />

ouened (assumed to result in insufficient negative pressure even with the expected inflow <strong>of</strong> air):<br />

and (2) the Room 170 doors to Rooms 149. 140/141. and 134 are all closed (Room 170 isolated<br />

from Building 99 1 exhaust ventilation svstem).<br />

In conclusion, as lono as the DroDer facility confiwration is maintained. it is expected<br />

that all waste storage areas <strong>of</strong> the facilitv will be exhausted bv the Buildin? 991 ro<strong>of</strong> plenum<br />

with the exception <strong>of</strong> Room 166.<br />

2.3.2.3 WAC Heating System<br />

.All the Building 991 Complex heating systems are supplied from natural gas fueled<br />

boilers located east <strong>of</strong> Room 166 <strong>of</strong> Building 99 1. The natural gas fueled boilers have replaced<br />

the steam system that previously supplied heat to the building. This change was necessary since<br />

. the underground section <strong>of</strong> the steam system had developed leaks over the years and has<br />

deteriorated. Complete failure <strong>of</strong> the steam system would have left the Building 991 Complex<br />

without any heating capacity.<br />

Two Rite Model 300LNx weatherpro<strong>of</strong>, inclined water tube forced draft boilerhumer<br />

units are located approximately 15 feet east <strong>of</strong> Room 166. The boiler construction consists <strong>of</strong><br />

the boilers, the burners, the control panel, and the gas train. The boilers are constructed to meet<br />

the American Society <strong>of</strong> Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Boiler Code No. IV for 125 psi W.W.P<br />

UL/CSD-l/FM Code. They are custom designed for outside operation. The boiler construction<br />

consists <strong>of</strong> 2 inch outside diameter inclined boiler tubes rolled and flared into 5/8 inch thick tube<br />

sheet. These boiler tubes are ASME rated at 125 psi. The outside body <strong>of</strong> the boiler is insulated<br />

18 gauge, galvanized metal jacket with an enamel paint fmish. The boiler has a built in<br />

combustion chamber with 2,75OoF high temperature castable refractory and 3 inches <strong>of</strong><br />

insulation. The boilers are approved to handle 2,500 cubic feet (fc')/hour supplied natural gas.<br />

The normal operating pressure <strong>of</strong> the boilers is 30 psi and the boilers have an ASME pressure<br />

relief valve that is set at 45 psi. Included as part <strong>of</strong> the boilers is a McDonnell-Miller TC-4 low<br />

water cut<strong>of</strong>f With test and check valve and a McDonnell-Miller #63 auxiliary low water cut<strong>of</strong>f<br />

with manual reset. A Honeywell high limit safety control with manual reset is also installed.<br />
