<strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related illegal acts and 8 cases <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related domestic violence <strong>in</strong> both cities<br />

comb<strong>in</strong>ed for these two years. By comparison, <strong>in</strong> our Targeted population surveys, there<br />

were 4/1805 people <strong>in</strong> the <strong>Lethbridge</strong> and Medic<strong>in</strong>e Hat regions who <strong>in</strong>dicated that<br />

<strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong> had resulted <strong>in</strong> the commission <strong>of</strong> illegal acts <strong>in</strong> 2008/2009 and 5/1805 people who<br />

reported an <strong>in</strong>cident <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related domestic violence. With a comb<strong>in</strong>ed population <strong>of</strong><br />

approximately 135,000 people between the 2 cities, this would project to 299 cases <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related illegal acts per annum and 374 cases <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related domestic violence<br />

per annum. It is true that only a portion <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related crime is ever reported or<br />

detected. However, the size <strong>of</strong> the discrepancy between our Targeted population survey<br />

data and police record data would also suggest that even when <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>-related crime is<br />

reported, it is not rout<strong>in</strong>ely documented.<br />
