The purpose <strong>of</strong> this research is to help researchers understand the social and economic impact <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong> <strong>in</strong><br />
this prov<strong>in</strong>ce.<br />
You do not have to answer questions you do not want to, and you can stop participation at any time.<br />
All <strong>in</strong>formation you provide is strictly confidential.<br />
We do not need to know your name, and your telephone number will be removed from the data set once all<br />
data collection is completed. Also, only group results will be reported when the study is published.<br />
This study has no known risks. However, some <strong>of</strong> the questions do ask about sensitive issues.<br />
The data will be stored on a computer <strong>in</strong> a secure location at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Lethbridge</strong>. The only people<br />
hav<strong>in</strong>g access to this data are members <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Research</strong> Team, headed by Dr. Robert Williams <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong><br />
<strong>of</strong> <strong>Lethbridge</strong>.<br />

Before we start, we would like to provide our def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong>: We def<strong>in</strong>e <strong>gambl<strong>in</strong>g</strong> as wager<strong>in</strong>g money or<br />
material goods on someth<strong>in</strong>g with an uncerta<strong>in</strong> outcome <strong>in</strong> the hopes <strong>of</strong> w<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g additional money or material<br />
goods. It <strong>in</strong>cludes th<strong>in</strong>gs such as lottery tickets, scratch ‘n w<strong>in</strong> tickets, b<strong>in</strong>go, bett<strong>in</strong>g aga<strong>in</strong>st a friend on a game <strong>of</strong><br />
skill or chance, <strong>in</strong>vest<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> high risk stocks, etc. Provide def<strong>in</strong>ition <strong>of</strong> high risk stock if necessary (hyperl<strong>in</strong>k<br />
available to onl<strong>in</strong>e).<br />
