knowledge over craft. Finally, many of these issues have come out of the Bureau<br />

for European Design Associations. Designers, design students and design<br />

practitioners are asked to trawl through vast seas of data, information and<br />

knowledge and help create even more data, knowledge and information and<br />

how best can we as designers create environments to manipulate or utilise those<br />

vast amounts of data, knowledge and information in a creative way.<br />

9.2 Tavs Jørgensen<br />

Tavs Jørgensen’s projects merge traditional methods in furniture making,<br />

ceramics and foundry work with new technologies such as rapid prototyping,<br />

digitising and motion capture. The aesthetics of his work reflect the<br />

construction process used to make them. Jørgensen is currently Research<br />

Fellow in 3D Digital Production at the Autonomatic Research Cluster,<br />

University College Falmouth, where he is exploring new interfaces between<br />

human gesture and computer-aided design (CAD)/computer-aided<br />

manufacturing (CAM).<br />

We’ve already seen a bit of ceramics and I have to confess that is also my<br />

background - I am a potter by trade. But a few years ago I got interested in the<br />

digital tools that were becoming available for us to create. These present such<br />

fantastic possibilities and offer an array of different ways of creating and give<br />

such creative opportunities that certainly as a potter I find incredibly exciting.<br />

However, there are also things about the practice of working with material and<br />

form directly, intuitively and physically which is still valuable. My research is<br />
