Familiarity is an older term for <strong>the</strong> aspects between <strong>the</strong> planets.<br />

FANATICA<br />

Fanatica, asteroid 1,589 (<strong>the</strong> 1,589th asteroid to be discovered, on September 13,<br />

1950), is approximately 14 kilometers in diameter and has an orbital period of 3.8<br />

years. Fanatica is a concept asteroid, named after fanaticism. Fanaticism comes from<br />

<strong>the</strong> Latin fanaticus, meaning “one inspired” or “possessed by a deity” (specifically <strong>the</strong><br />

priests of Cybele and o<strong>the</strong>r goddesses). J. Lee Lehman associates this asteroid with<br />

fanatical temperaments and activities. Jacob Schwartz associates Fanatica with “warlike<br />

behavior.”<br />

FARROW, PENNY<br />

Penny Farrow has been involved in <strong>the</strong> study of <strong>the</strong> Vedic tradition since 1971 as part<br />

of a long-standing commitment to her spiritual practice. She has studied Jyotish<br />

intensely under <strong>the</strong> personal tutelage of Hart deFouw, K. N. Rao, V. K. Choudhry, and<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r highly regarded masters of <strong>the</strong> subject. She has B.S. and M.S. degrees from Cornell<br />

University in biological sciences and has had extensive career experience as a<br />

teacher, researcher, and business woman. Recently, she has been a teaching assistant<br />

for deFouw in his two-week in-residence Jyotish retreats. Farrow was honored with a<br />

Jyotish Bhanu certificate from <strong>the</strong> Systems’ Institute of Hindu Astrology and a certificate<br />

of honor from <strong>the</strong> Institute of Astrology (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) in New Delhi<br />

for promoting jyotish in <strong>the</strong> United States. She is <strong>the</strong> author of several articles that<br />

have been published in journals such as The Mountain Astrologer and <strong>the</strong> American<br />

Council of Vedic Astrology’s Journal.<br />

Farrow’s ability to integrate and clearly explain <strong>the</strong> principles of Vedic <strong>astrology</strong><br />

makes her a popular presenter at conferences and seminars. She practices Jyotish<br />

full-time and is a teacher and tutor for <strong>the</strong> American College of Vedic Astrology. Her<br />

particular interest is in integrating her predictions with guidelines on practical<br />

approaches to remedial measures as well as traditional recommendations.<br />
