Shravana
A doubly separating aspect occurs when both planets are moving away from an
aspect. In other words, if in the preceding example Neptune was moving retrograde
(backward through the zodiac) as Venus was moving direct (forward through the zodiac)
after Venus had passed 25° Leo, the aspect would be doubly separating. For the
purpose of interpretation, applying aspects are regarded as being stronger than separating
aspects.
SEPTILE
A septile is an unusual minor aspect of 51 3 ⁄ 7 ° created by dividing a circle into seven
equal parts. Because of the numerological association of the number seven with Neptune,
it has been regarded as having a mystical or a “beclouding” influence. Such eminent
astrologers as John Addey have researched this aspect, and material on septiles
can be found in astrology books dealing with harmonics.
SESQUISQUARE
A sesquisquare (also called a sesquiquadrate or a sesquare) is a minor aspect of 135°.
Like the semisquare, a sesquisquare’s influence is like that of a weak square. Though
weak, it is, like the semisquare, relatively strong for a minor aspect, and astrologers
give it an orb of influence of 2° to 3°.
SEXTILE
A sextile is an aspect of 60° between two points—e.g., between two planets—in an
astrological chart. This aspect is traditionally regarded as beneficial, although, unlike
the trine aspect, the potential contained in a sextile has to be developed. For this reason,
it is sometimes referred to as the aspect of opportunity.
SHRAVANA
Shravana (ear or hearing) is one of the Nakshatras (lunar mansions) of Vedic astrology.
Symbolized by a trident, and presided over by Vishnu, this Nakshatra is ruled by
the Moon at Capricorn 10° to 23°20’. Favorable actions are usually well supported at
this time, and individuals tend to lead more ethical, prosperous lives, though also
sometimes be overgenerous or liberal.
