MOORE, MARCIA M.<br />

Marcia M. Moore, astrologer and occultist, was born May 22, 1928, in Cambridge,<br />

Massachusetts. Her fa<strong>the</strong>r was Robert L. Moore, <strong>the</strong> founder of Sheraton Hotels, and<br />

her sister was Robin Moore, a novelist who used <strong>the</strong> pen name Robert L. Moore, Jr.<br />

Marcia Moore was a graduate of Radcliffe College, where she wrote a B.A. <strong>the</strong>sis on<br />

<strong>the</strong> subject of <strong>astrology</strong>. The <strong>the</strong>sis was later published in <strong>book</strong> form by <strong>the</strong> Lucis<br />

Trust. Moore became an active astrologer and a well-known figure in <strong>the</strong> American<br />

astrological community. Moore’s second husband, Mark Douglas, collaborated with<br />

her on several of her <strong>book</strong>s. Her third husband was Howard Alltounian, Jr. In her final<br />

years, Moore was experimenting with mind-altering drugs, which contributed to her<br />

death on January 15, 1979, in Bothwell, Washington.<br />

MORIN, JEAN-BAPTISTE (MORINUS)<br />

Jean-Baptiste Morin (Morinus), <strong>the</strong> French astrologer and physician, was born in<br />

Villefranche, France, in 1583. He received his doctor of medicine degree at Avignon<br />

in 1613. Over <strong>the</strong> next several years, he was a physician to a bishop, an abbot, and <strong>the</strong><br />

duke of Luxemburg. In 1630, Morin became royal professor of ma<strong>the</strong>matics. He was<br />

appointed to draw up <strong>the</strong> horoscope of <strong>the</strong> newborn Louis XIV.<br />

Morin developed a method of determining longitudes at sea using <strong>the</strong> distance<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Moon from a fixed star. He divided <strong>the</strong> universe into elemental, e<strong>the</strong>real, and<br />
