Uniform for Officers of The Indian <strong>Police</strong> 63<br />

Sword Knot. - Brown leather, with acron.<br />

Seabbarad. - Brown leather, infantry pattern.<br />

Whistle. - Of the usual <strong>Police</strong> pattern, to be worn attached to a khaki lanyard and carried<br />

in the left breast pocket.<br />

Badges - Silver metal.<br />

Inspector General One crown and two stars.<br />

Deputy Inspector-General One crown and one star.<br />

Superintendent in receipt of basic pay of Rs. One crown.<br />

950 a month and over, provided that a Superintendent<br />

promoted from the provincial police<br />

service shall be entitled to wear a crown<br />

from the date the directly recruited officer<br />

of the Indian <strong>Police</strong> next below him on the<br />

provincial cadre becomes entitled to wear<br />

The crown to be one inch broad. The stars to be of the "Star of India" (five pointed) pattern<br />

and one inch broad.<br />

Officers of all ranks will wear a silver departmental badge "I.P." in half inch block letters<br />

at the base of the shoulder strap.<br />

The following additional articles of the uniform and equipment should be provided and<br />

worn when special circumstances or orders so direct.<br />

Trousers (slacks). - Khaki gaberdine to match jacket, Army regulation pattern. (See<br />

Note 1. Review Order).<br />

Boots. - Ankle, plain brown leather, with plain toe-caps. To be worn with trousers.<br />

Belt. - Second shoulder strap to Sam Browne belt. To be worn when revolver is carried.<br />

Revolver or (at the option of each officer) an automatic pistol with brown holster and<br />

ammunition pouch.<br />

Forage cap. - Dark blue cloth with three cloth welts, 4 1 ⁄4 inches total depth, diameter<br />

across the top 10 3 ⁄8 inches for a cap fitting 21 3 ⁄4 inches in circumference, the top to be 1 ⁄8<br />

inch larger or smaller in diameter for every 1 ⁄4 inch by which the cap may vary in size of<br />

head above or below the before-mentioned standard e.g. for a cap 22 1 ⁄4 inches in circumference,<br />

the diameter across the top to be 10 5 ⁄8 inches, and for a cap 21 inches in<br />

circumference, the diameter across to be 10 inches. The sides to be made in four pieces<br />

and to be 2 1 ⁄8 inches deep between the welts. A band of black mohair oakleaf lace<br />

1 3 ⁄4 inches wide to be placed between the two lower welts. Indian <strong>Police</strong> pattern badge<br />

to be worn in the centre of the band in front. The cap to be set up on a band of stiff leather<br />

or other material 1 3 ⁄4 inches deep. Chin strap of black patent leather 3 ⁄8 inch wide buttoned<br />

on to two gorget buttons of Indian <strong>Police</strong> pattern placed immediately behind the<br />

corners of the peak.<br />

The peak of the cap will be of the following pattern :-<br />

For Inspector-General Patent leather, embroidered all round with<br />

plain silver embroidery. Depth in the middle<br />

2 inches. To drop at an angle of 45 degrees.<br />
