Foreword
One of the major tasks assigned to the Institute on Cultural Reseach
(ICR) is the in-depth study and cataloging of physical and incorporeal
sources of research material on Laos. This project contributes to the
preservation and recognition of the diverse cultural heritage of Lao multiethnic
community
Officially initiated between 1997-1998, this undertaking falls within
the scope of Lao-French scientific co-operation linking the ICR and the
French mix team from the National Centre of Scientific Research (CNRS)
and National Institute of Eastern Languages and Cultures (INALCO) in the
project “Inventory of current sources of research on Laos”. This assignment
is a follow-up on Professor P.B. Lafont’s valuable work “Bibliography on
Laos”: Vol. 1 - covering the period 1666-1961, and Vol. 2 - covering the
period 1962-1975.
The references for this bibliography which are published in thirty four
languages and edited in thirty seven countries covering the period from 1976
to August 2003, represents a most comprehensive body of documentation in
the scientific, technical, arts, academic, leasures and general fields on Laos.
From these 14.700 itemized and theme-listed references, an accurate
picture ; be it insufficiencies or advancements in the various branches of
instruction or fields of knowledge on Laos, is depicted. This valuable piece
of work should be a welcome aid for students, researchs and experts in the
collating of data necessary for their research.
