classroom). It is separated in terms of interactional (main emphasis on social<br />

communication), and transactional discourse (main emphasis on giving and<br />

receiving information)<br />

Exposure: The proportion of <strong>CLIL</strong> teaching experienced by a learner in a school<br />

year expressed as low, medium or high<br />

Target Language: If the teaching medium is a foreign, second, minority or<br />

majority language<br />

Linguistic Environment: If the socio-cultural environment is generally<br />

monolingual, bilingual or multilingual<br />

Subjects: If this form of <strong>CLIL</strong> is particularly suitable for selected or the majority<br />

of subjects<br />

Teachers: Whether teachers are usually language or non-language specialists,<br />

and, native or non-native speakers of the target language<br />

Trans-Languaging: If more than one language is found in the <strong>CLIL</strong> classroom<br />

environment
