The main lessons learned
Key factors in the development of tourism in this region: Good weather - landscape
- Long sandy beaches - Local habits and costumes - Low population density in
tourist area.
Explanatory factors of successful (or unsuccessful) relationship between tourism
and sustainable development: From the socio-economic perception, the small
private tourist services, such agencies and activities e.g. tours, tourist booklets,
posters and cards play an important role, in addition to the hotels and restaurants.
In the other hand, protection of the environment is a main goal of successful
tourism development along the tourism activity area.
Regional development includes all above, with good planning for the future
activities.
Relevant Indicators:
• the location of the area at Tripoli. This means that an high population
density of Tripoli comes to the tourist area during weekends and summer
vacation, in addition to the foreign tourists who work in Libya or come from
outside.
• Good facilities of transportation and communications.
Lessons learned to be applied in other Mediterranean areas: This study applied on
local Libyan circumstances.
Criteria to choose this region: This area along the history is the most important
tourist province west of Libya, and the criterion which led to study it is the variety
of tourist modes offered.
A success, a partial success or a failure in terms of local sustainable development:
This is a successful example in terms of local sustainable development.
