Malte The Planning Authority and the Ministry of Tourism liaise
very closely in the planning and development of tourism
projects through joint committees, consultation and
preparation of development briefs. Issues regarding tourism
development and the environment are discussed. If required,
private and public organisations are invited to sit on such
committees, including NGOs. When development involves a
particular locality, the local council is consulted.
The future Malta Tourism Authority will be responsible to
examine the environmental implications of tourism
development prior to submission to the Planning Authority, to
integrate environmental and sustainable development
principles in the preparation of tourism development and
marketing policies.
One example of the collaboration between the Ministry of
Tourism, Planning Authority and others agencies: a
development brief was prepared for the regeneration of a dock
waterfront area into a yacht marina together with leisure,
tourist and commercial facilities. A consortium has been
selected for the development of the project.
Slovénie At the national level, there are two recently founded
government bodies :
• the Tourism Council, for tourism and socio-economic questions including
national-regional-local aspects
• the Council for Sustainable Development, initiated by the Ministry for
Environment and urban planning.
Both Councils are founded by governmental decree. Their
members are ministers of the related sectors, business
associations, civil organisation and some experts-individuals.
Their role is to recommend to the government appropriate acts.
Croatie At national level :
• Ministry of Tourism. The Minister is by his function a President of
National Tourism Organisation, which is de facto subordinated to the
Ministry.
• State Directorate for the Protection of Nature and Environment (in
nearest future probably also a Ministry), with regional centres.
• Ministry of Culture (Directorate for the protection of cultural heritage),
with regional offices in larger towns.
At local level, all the tourism investments must be done
according to the structure/spatial plans for counties and
municipalities.
