The Regional Co-ordinating Committee plays also an<br />

important role on the subject of the tourism development. Its<br />

main task is to co-ordinate the activities and actions related to<br />

tourism and the tourism product, identify the problems and<br />

weakness of every region, as well as to suggest measures for<br />

the speedy and effective solution of these problems, along with<br />

the upgrading of the tourist product. The Committee is chaired<br />

by the CTO. Members are representatives from professional<br />

associations, the Municipal and others local authorities, the<br />

Chamber of Commerce of each region, and representatives of<br />

the appropriate Government departments and District Offices.<br />

Some indicative issues that are discussed in these Committees<br />

are the construction of small-scale projects, cleanliness, central<br />

sewerage, etc.<br />

Syrie The Syrian Ministry of Tourism is the leading authority in<br />

controls, licenses, and manages all branches of tourism. The<br />

private and the joint sectors play an important role under the<br />

supervision of the ministry. There are :<br />

Israel<br />

85% hotels private sector<br />

100% tour operators (private sector)<br />

100% restaurants (private sector).<br />

The Ministry of Tourism is responsible for co-ordinating<br />

tourism issues in Israel.<br />

A national tourism master plan is now in final stages, already<br />

adopted by the government.<br />

Each of the six districts of the country has a tourist district<br />

manager that can influence local/regional programs that deal<br />

with, or are connected to tourism matters.<br />

The Tourist Ministry is also represented in the National<br />

planning and Building Board (the highest institute in Israel for<br />

planning).<br />

Libye The Secretariat of Tourism is supervising all matters of<br />

tourism in Libya (policy formulation, regulation).<br />
