TUI ENVIRONMENTAL C HECKLIST: GOLF - E NVIRONMENTAL ASPECTS OF
THE ASSESSMENT OF GOLF COURSES
1. Are there any shortages in water supply?
2. Are there any obvious periods of draught? When, how and for which reasons?
3. What kind of water is used for watering the links (drinking water or treated
wastewater)? What quantity is used per day (litres)? What is the total area
(acres) of the links, and how many greens has the golf course?
4. Is the owner informed about the environmentally problematic nature of golf
links (consumption of water / use of herbicides and pesticides / consumption of
floorspace / competition to other forms of usage, like agriculture)? Has he
actively taken means in order to reduce the environmental impact?
5. Is there – on a volunteer basis or under legal obligation – an Environmental
Impact Assessment EIA for the golf links. When and by whom was it realised?
6. How many hotel beds belong directly to the golf course? Is there any restaurant
capacity available?
7. Is there a public discussion in the region (political parties, media,
environmental groups, other branches) against the conduction of golf courses?
On what argumentation basis?
