social protection regimes.
Makivik is playing an active
role to ensure that the
rights of the beneficiaries
are respected and to ensure
that both Nunavik Inuit and
Nunavik Inuit enterprises get
our fair share of any development
project.
In 2010-2011, Makivik pursued the implementation of the
Raglan Agreement and of the Nunavik Nickel Agreement. These
are the two impacts and benefits agreements currently in force
in Nunavik. The Raglan Committee and the Nunavik Nickel
Committee were active. Makivik’s representative on both committees
was there to ensure follow up on environment issues,
Inuit employment, contracts for Inuit enterprises and any other
issues that pertain to these mining projects. The Tamatumani
initiative, which was put in place by Xstrata Nickel along with
regional partners through the Inuit employment and training
technical committee, continue to be beneficial as several Inuit
found specific training and employment opportunities there
this past year.
Makivik also signed a letter of intent with Oceanic Iron Ore
Corporation with regards to the iron mine project located in
the vicinity of Aupaluk. Makivik is also in communication with

En 2010-2011, Makivik a
poursuivi la mise en œuvre de
l’Entente Raglan et de l’Entente
Nunavik Nickel, les deux accords sur les répercussions et les
avantages actuellement en vigueur au Nunavik. Le comité Raglan
et le Comité Nunavik Nickel ont été actifs, et les représentant de
Makivik sur ces deux comités ont assuré le suivi des questions
liées à l’environnement, l’embauche des Inuits, les contrats pour
les entreprises inuites et d’autres enjeux touchant ces projets
miniers. L’initiative Tamatumani, mise en place par Xstrata Nickel
en collaboration avec des partenaires régionaux par l’entremise
du comité technique d’emploi et de formation, continue d’avoir
des retombées positives puisque plusieurs Inuits ont reçu de la
formation spécialisée ou eu accès à des possibilités d’emploi
grâce à cette initiative.
Makivik a également signé une lettre d’intention avec la
Société Oceanic Iron Ore concernant le projet de mine de fer situé
à proximité d’Aupaluk. Makivik est également en communication
avec d’autres entreprises actives dans la région, notamment
