Justice projects
The position of a Nunavik Justice Officer was created in
January 2011 and part of their mandate is to develop regional
initiatives, an information campaign, legal information, educational
tools and other justice-related projects and materials for
the residents of Nunavik in partnership with other organizations.
The MJQ indicated in March 2010 that it was ready to fund a
legal information project. The information on Estate Without Wills
was identified as a priority, and discussions were undertaken with
Éducaloi to have a project for Nunavik drafted around the issue.
Correctional Service Canada (CSC)
After representations to the Aboriginal Initiatives Division
(Quebec) of the CSC, different actions were identified as priorities
by the different participants of the forum on CSC’s practices
and services for aboriginal inmates. These include improving
relationships and services for the Inuit of Nunavik, improving
communication between different stakeholders and between
employees of the CSC, improving and creating partnerships between
different stakeholders, develop videoconferencing projects
for Inuit inmates from Nunavik, and increasing the number of
visits by CSC employees to the aboriginal communities. The CSC
is currently exploring the possibility to develop a videoconferencing
project for Inuit inmates.
Projets de justice
Un poste d’agent de la justice au Nunavik a été créé en janvier
2011 avec pour mandat de mettre sur pied des initiatives
régionales et d’élaborer une campagne de sensibilisation, des
outils d’information juridiques et pédagogiques, et d’autres projets
et documents dans le domaine de la justice à l’intention des
résidents du Nunavik en partenariat avec diverses organisations.
Le MJQ a indiqué en mars 2010 qu’il était prêt à financer un projet
d’information juridique en accordant la priorité au sujet des
successions sans testament. Des discussions ont été entreprises
avec Éducaloi concernant la rédaction d’un document destiné
au Nunavik sur cette question.
Services correctionnels du Canada (SCC)
À la suite de pourparlers avec la Division des initiatives pour
les autochtones du SCC (Québec), une liste d’actions prioritaires
a été élaborée par les participants à un forum portant sur les
pratiques du SCC et les services aux détenus autochtones. Cela
comprend l’amélioration des services et des relations avec les
Inuits du Nunavik, l’amélioration des communications entre
les divers intervenants et les employés du SCC, la création de
partenariats entre les différents acteurs, le développement de
projets de visioconférence pour les détenus inuits du Nunavik, et
l’augmentation du nombre de visites par des employés du SCC
dans les communautés autochtones. Le SCC étudie la possibilité
d’offrir un service de visioconférence aux détenus inuits.
