Over the course of the year, Makivik has also had the opportunity
to provide continued assistance to post-secondary
students. Knowing that education is such an important part of
developing the region and securing our future’s independence,
Makivik continues to support and promote post-secondary education.
Further to the continued support, the Makivik executives,
as well as the Air Inuit board of directors, have decided to further
the Scholarship Program by providing two passes per student to
their hometown from Montreal. This initiative is to ensure that
students who need family support have the opportunity to take
a breather and come home to family more often.
In regards to the annual Ivakkak race held in the late winter
or early spring, we are continuing to work with the participants
to improve the implementation of the race. With nearly 20 participants
last year, we can see that this race continues to inspire
many of the Inuit to start raising Inuit husky dogs for the race.
More importantly, it helps to ensure that the Inuit culture of the
sled dogging will continue in Nunavik.
This year’s race is to be from Kangiqsualujjuaq to Kangirsuk.
At the time of writing, we are working with interested race participants
to finalize the plans and rules. We believe that Ivakkak

Au cours de l’année, Makivik a également
poursuivi son soutien aux étudiants
de niveau postsecondaire. Nous sommes
bien conscients qu’il est essentiel de soutenir
et promouvoir l’éducation postsecondaire pour assurer le
développement de la région et garantir notre autonomie future.
Outre cet appui financier, les dirigeants de Makivik et d’Air Inuit
ont décidé d’ajouter au programme de bourses en offrant deux
passes par étudiant pour des envolées de Montréal à destination
de leur communauté de résidence. Cette initiative permet aux
étudiants de recevoir du soutien de la famille et des proches à
l’occasion de pauses bien méritées et de visites familiales plus
fréquentes.
En ce qui concerne la course annuelle Ivakkak qui se tient à la
fin de l’hiver ou tôt au printemps, nous continuons à travailler avec
les participants afin de sans cesse l’améliorer. Près de 20 coureurs
y ont participé l’an dernier, ce qui démontre à quel point Ivakkak
continue d’inspirer de nombreux Inuits en les incitant à élever
des chiens husky inuits pour prendre part à cette course. Plus
important encore, Ivakkak permet de perpétuer la tradition du
traîneau à chiens au Nunavik.
La course de cette année partira de Kangiqsualujjuaq à
destination de Kangirsuk. Au moment d’écrire ces lignes, nous
travaillons avec les participants intéressés à finaliser les plans
et les règles de la prochaine édition. Nous croyons qu’Ivakkak
