Construction
Makivik’s construction division, created in 1998, is responsible
for the construction of marine infrastructure facilities in Nunavik
as well as the construction of social housing pursuant to agreements
reached between the federal and provincial governments,
amongst others. Our main objectives are to build quality marine
facilities and housing units, provide jobs for as many Inuit as we
can, and promote Nunavik’s local economy.
Marine infrastructure
During the 2010-2011 fiscal year, the second phase of constructing
facilities were completed in Kuujjuaraapik. This phase,
which began in August 2010, includes a 12-kilometre road leading
to Umiartalik, a boat ramp at Umiartalik
and navigational lights at the ramp.
With the completion of this project,
our Construction Division has
fulfilled the Northern Quebec Marine
Infrastructure Program pursuant to
agreements signed with the governments
of Canada and Quebec.
In accordance with the various environmental
approvals obtained,
the Division is required to perform
monitoring programs in certain communities.

Construction
Créée en 1998, la Division de la construction de Makivik est
responsable de la construction d’infrastructures maritimes et
de logements sociaux au Nunavik, conformément aux ententes
conclues avec les gouvernements fédéral et provincial. Notre
mandat est de bâtir des installations maritimes et des logements
sociaux de qualité, tout en offrant des emplois au plus grand
nombre possible d’Inuits et en favorisant l’économie locale du
Nunavik.
Infrastructure maritime
La deuxième phase de construction des installations de
Kuujjuaraapik a été complétée au cours de l’exercice 2010-2011.
Commencée en août 2010, cette phase comprend
une route de 12 kilomètres menant
à Umiartalik ainsi qu’une rampe de mise à
l’eau et des feux de navigation au même
endroit.
La fin de ce projet met un terme au
Programme des infrastructures maritimes
du Nord québécois prévu dans les ententes
signées avec les gouvernements d’Ottawa
et de Québec. Conformément aux approbations
environnementales reçues, la Division
doit cependant mener des activités de surveillance
dans certaines communautés.
