Ivakkak Race
It was on a beautiful afternoon when the people of Salluit
gathered at the finish line to welcome the 15 Ivakkak dog team
mushers on April 3, 2011. School children held welcome banners
as the teams arrived one-by-one. The race started in Puvirnituq
with ideal weather conditions during the whole 356-kilometre
race.
The first five teams to cross the finish were Peter Kiatainaq
and Peter Jr. of Kangiqsujuaq; Peter Boy Ittukallak and Juani
Nutaraaluk of Puvirnitq; Allen Gordon and Willie Ningiurivik of
Kuujjuaq; Harry Okpik and Adamie Kauki; and Willie Kulula and
Piari Kulula St-Cyr of Quaqtaq.

Le 3 avril 2011, la population de Salluit a profité d’un bel
après-midi pour accueillir les quinze attelages de chiens au fil
d’arrivée. Des écoliers arboraient des banderoles pour saluer
les équipes au terme d’une course de 356 kilomètres qui avait
commencé à Puvirnituq et s’était déroulée sous des conditions
météorologiques idéales.
Les cinq premières équipes à terminer la course ont été celles
