companies approached us with interest in distributing our<br />
products once our production levels become sufficient.<br />
In past years we wasted valuable time assembling and dismantling<br />
our temporary processing platform and therefore less<br />
time was available for harvesting and processing. Although we<br />
did again use the temporary platform for this summers work,<br />
we are building a small permanent processing plant that will<br />
increase the time we can devote to harvesting and processing.<br />
We expect this plant to be completed by next spring so it can be<br />
used as our main work base for the next seasons.<br />
When markets are found for these seaweed products it may<br />
be necessary to expand our harvesting operations in other<br />
communities that are known to have extensive seaweed beds.<br />
Typically the local Inuit workers are unable to fully exploit the<br />
local biomasses to its full potential so this effort will most likely<br />
have to be spread to other areas.<br />

Nous devions dans le passé consacrer un temps précieux à<br />
assembler et démanteler nos installations temporaires de traitement,<br />
au détriment de nos activités de récolte et de traitement.<br />
Nous avons à nouveau utilisé ces installations temporaires au<br />
cours de l’été dernier, mais nous construisons présentement<br />
une petite usine permanente qui nous permettra de consacrer<br />
dorénavant plus de temps à la récolte et au traitement. Cette<br />
usine devrait être prête au printemps prochain et nous servir<br />
d’installation de base au cours des prochaines saisons.<br />
Lorsque nous aurons trouvé un marché pour ces produits à<br />
base d’algues, il nous faudra étendre nos activités de récolte à<br />
d’autres communautés reconnues pour leurs importants fonds<br />
d’algues. Puisqu’il est habituellement impossible pour les travailleurs<br />
inuits d’exploiter toute la biomasse locale, cet effort<br />
devra probablement s’étendre à d’autres régions.<br />
