The program does
not exclude young people who
are at risk.
In addition to its hockey
structure, the program implements
various special projects
while supervising the students
academically and pursuing
youth development. For the
third consecutive year, we
helped to organize a weekend
camp with coaches from Hockey Canada, which took place in
Kangiqsualujjuaq. We were also involved in the Multisport tour,
Jouer gagnant. Nancy Drolet, winner of multiple Olympic medals
in ice hockey, was the guest speaker for that series of conferences,
spending nine days in Nunavik. Finally, Sammy Gordon and Kyle
Aitchison of Nunavik took part in the 1000 km cycling event
organized under the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie, thereby providing
inspiration for the youth of Nunavik and we hope to renew our
involvement with the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie.
As all the resources and energy invested in the Nunavik Youth
Hockey Development Program during the past five years are
coming to fruition, Nunavik leaders have again committed to
the renewal of the program for 2011-2012 under its current approach,
which puts education first. Makivik is proud to manage

jeunes ont également participé
au volet « Select » du PDJNH au
cours des deux dernières saisons,
et près de la moitié d’entre eux
ont représenté le Nunavik dans
d’importants tournois de hockey
tenus au sud.
Parmi les 840 élèves inscrits,
certains ont de bons résultats
scolaires, alors que d’autres
éprouvent plus de difficultés
en classe. Certains suivent un
cheminement particulier de
formation et d’autres ont abandonné l’école. Les élèves qui abandonnent
peuvent participer au programme sous la supervision
du personnel du PDJNH s’ils s’engagent à participer activement
à la vie communautaire et à poursuivre leur développement
personnel. Le programme n’exclut pas les jeunes plus vulnérables.
Outre la structure de hockey, le programme met en œuvre
divers projets spéciaux tout en offrant de l’encadrement scolaire
aux jeunes en plein développement. Pour la troisième
année consécutive, nous avons organisé un camp de week-end
animé par des entraîneurs de Hockey Canada, qui a eu lieu à
Kangiqsualujjuaq. Nous avons également participé à la tournée
multisports, Jouer gagnant. Nancy Drolet, médaillée olympique
en hockey sur glace, a séjourné neuf jours au Nunavik où elle
a prononcé une série de conférences. Enfin, Sammy Gordon et
