Working group
The Working Group on Justice in Nunavik was created further to
a request made by the chairperson of KRG and the president of
Makivik to the Quebec minister of Justice in 2006. The Working
Group began in 2008–2009 and its specific objectives are to investigate
and make recommendations to improve access to justice
services and the administration of justice in Nunavik. The Working
Group is composed of two members appointed by Makivik, two
members appointed by KRG (including one representative of
the Kativik Regional Police Force), two members appointed by
the Ministère de la Justice du Québec (justice, MJQ) and two
members appointed by the Ministère de la Sécurité publique
du Québec (public security, MSP).
In 2010-2011, the Working Group followed-up on itinerant
court activities and issues and identified recommendations
concerning the improvement of justice and correctional services.
The recommendations of the Working Group will be tabled in
its third report and will be pertaining, amongst other subjects,
to the following: reconstruction of social regulation in Nunavik;
establishment of permanent justice services on the Hudson coast;
assignment of a judge position for Nunavik; concurrent court
district; services for detainees; and information in civil law matters.

Groupe de travail
Le Groupe de travail sur la justice au Nunavik a été créé par
le ministre de la Justice du Québec en 2006 à la demande des
présidents de l’ARK et de Makivik. Il a commencé ses travaux en
2008-2009 avec pour mandat de formuler des recommandations
pour améliorer l’accès aux services de justice et à l’administration
de la justice au Nunavik. Le Groupe de travail est composé de
deux représentants de Makivik, deux représentants de l’ARK
(dont un représentant du Corps de police régionale Kativik),
deux représentants du ministère de la Justice du Québec (MJQ)
et deux représentants du ministère de la Sécurité publique du
Québec (MSP).
En 2010-2011, le Groupe de travail a suivi les activités de
la cour itinérante et formulé des recommandations concernant
l’amélioration de la justice et des services correctionnels.
Les recommandations contenues dans le troisième rapport du
Groupe de travail portent notamment sur la reconstruction de
la régulation sociale au Nunavik, l’établissement de services de
