de ontdekking, nieuwbeschrijving, nomenclatorische
omzwervingen en kweekervaringen van
deze fraaie soort worden door Jean-Marc Chalet
belicht.
Dezelfde
auteur brengt een plantenportret van Aloe
rauhii.
Summary
Rob Bregman
Ludwig Bercht leads things off with looking back at 2013. We’ve had a cold spring
but a warm and sunny summer.
In his series on the old ‘Verkade’ books from the 1930’s, Theo Heijnsdijk deals
with Euphorbia obesa. The differences with ssp. symmetrica, known since 1941, are
explained. Some abnormal forms are also depicted.
Bertus Spee presents another 4 interesting succulents, viz. Aloe erinacea, Cephalocereus
senilis, Mammillaria crucigera and Quaqua ramosa.
Jan Jaap de Morree studied the arrangement of the filaments in Echinopsis s.l. In
most species there are 2 groups: primary filaments down inside the floral tube and
secondary filaments placed higher in a ring. In a reaction, Ludwig Bercht refers to a
recent molecular study in which the filament arrangement is postulated to be of lesser
taxonomic importance.
Riet Maessen takes us to the botanic garden of Valencia, Spain.
Isabel Larridon reports about a scientific study on the genetic diversity of plants in
cultivation which are threatened in nature.
Henk Ruinaard focuses on Echinocactus horizonthalonius, a common species
from the southern USA. He outlines the variability in spination and flower color.
Jan de Vreede observed some strange features on plants in cultivation.
Ludwig Bercht travelled through the Arches National Park in Utah, USA.
Jan Jaap de Morree visited Melocactus specialist Geert Eerkens in Surinam.
A new book on agaves by John Pilbeam is reviewed by Henk Viscaal.
Wolter ten Hoeve summarizes the contents of other succulent plant journals.
Finally, indexes are given of all authors, article titles and plant names published in
2013 in this journal.
