ABSTRACT: Pilot study that aimed to identify the adjustment of the place, instruments andequipments of data collection to assess the pain of preterm infants, estimate the sampleand discover the viability of the Premature Infant Pain Profile (PIPP) scale and the musicalintervention relieving the pain of preterm infants in peripheral venipuncture. This is arandomized cross‐sectional clinical trial, composed by 10 preterm infants, carried out inJune 2010, in the neonatal intensive care unit of a public maternity of Fortaleza‐CE, afterapproval of the Research Ethics Committee n. 100606\10. The place, such as theinstruments and equipments are viable for the study. PIPP scale presented utility to assessthe pain of preterm infants and music provided pain relief to the study group. It wasconcluded that nursing can use music as palliative to relief the pain of preterm infants.KEY WORDS: Music; infant, newborn; pain; nursing.RESUMEN: El objetivo del estudio piloto tuvo fue identificar la idoneidad del sitio,herramientas y equipos par a recoger datos para la evaluación del dolor en recién nacidospretérminos (RNPT); estimar la muestra y evaluar la viabilidad de escala Premature InfantPain Profile (PIPP) y la intervención de la música en el alivio del dolor del RNPT en lapunción venosa. Se trata de ensayo clínico aleatorio transversal, con 10 RNPT, llevado acabo en junio de 2010, en la unidad de terapia intensiva neonatal de una maternidadpública en Fortaleza‐CE, aprobado por el Comité de Ética en Investigación nº100606/10. Elsitio, los instrumentos y los equipos son viables para el estudio. La escala PIPP se presentóútil para evaluar el dolor del RNPT y la música ofreció al grupo de estudio el alivio del dolor.Se concluye que la enfermería puede utilizar la música como paliativo del dolor en reciénnacidos pretérminos.PALABRAS CLAVE: Música; recién nacido; dolor; enfermería.ISBN: 978-85-63901-04-0
