The targetpopulation consisted of 96 mother‐child binomials that were observed during applicationof BCG‐ID in a maternity hospital in Rio de Janeiro, were divided randomly into two groups(experimental and control), and the bodily reactions, indicative of pain were analyzedaccording to the NIPS scale. The results showed that 95.6% of newborns were beingbreastfed for the implementation of the immunobiological, felt no pain, and 94.1%, facingthe same situation, and who were not breastfed, showed that feeling. It is concluded thatbreastfeeding, in addition to all the advantages already known, can be considered and usedas a technology of nursing care to avoid the pain of the newborn.Key words; Neonatal Nursing; Nursing care; Technology, Breastfeeding..RESUMEN ‐ Estudio experimental con un enfoque cuantitativo, que tiene por objetodemostrar la eficacia de la lactancia materna en la prevención del dolor de los reciénnacidos (RN), mientras que al mismo tiempo que se somete a la vacunación con BCG‐ID, ydemostrar, desde el concepto actual que la lactancia materna, entre muchos otrosbeneficios, también puede considerarse como una tecnología utilizadas en el tratamientodel dolor del recién nacido, por el personal de enfermería en la práctica asistencial.
