Observou‐se maior prevalência demalformações entre mulheres com idades inferior ou igual a 14 anos (11,0/100.000) emaior ou igual a 35 anos (10,4/100.000); idade gestacional menor ou igual a 36 semanas(23,9/100.000) e peso inferior a 2.500g (22,7/100.000); sexo masculino (9,5/100.000) eraça indígena (11,4/100.000) e preta (10,9/100.000). As malformações do aparelhoosteomuscular e articular foram predominantes (2.312 /39,8%). Os resultados mostraramprevalência de malformações superior à encontrada na literatura. Sugere‐se a realizaçãode novos estudos com vistas a esclarecer se ocorreu melhoria do sistema de notificação ouaumento dos casos.PALAVRAS‐CHAVE: Prevalência; enfermagem neonatal; enfermagem obstétrica;anormalidades congênitas.ABSTRACT: This cross sectional descriptive study aimed to present an overview of theprevalence of congenital malformations in Rio de Janeiro between the years 2000 and2006. Data were collected from the query‐based electronic DATASUS between July andAugust 2009. Have been reported 665,419 live births and 5798 congenital malformations(8,7 /100.000). A higher prevalence of malformations among women aged less than orequal to 14 years (11,0 / 100,000) and greater than or equal to 35 years (10,4 /100.000),gestational age less than or equal to 36 weeks (23, 9/100.000) who weigh less than 2,500 g(22,7 /100.000), males (9,5/100.000) and Indian race (11,4 / 100.000) and black (10,9/100.000). Malformations of the musculoskeletal and joint were predominant (2.312/39.8%). The results showed prevalence of malformations than that found in the literature.It is suggested that further studies aimed at ascertaining whether there has beenimprovement in the notification system or an increase in cases.Keywords: Prevalence; neonatal nursing; obstetric nursing; congenital abnormalitiesISBN: 978-85-63901-04-0
