Régészeti kutatások a Rudas
fürdő területén

2004. május 13-án a Budapest Gyógyfürdői
és Hévizei Rt. megbízásából kezdtük
meg a fürdőben a régészeti feltárást,
(1. kép) valamint a falkutatást, mely az
épület tervezett rekonstrukciójához és
fejlesztéséhez kapcsolódott. Az ásatással
párhuzamosan elkezdődött a kivitelezés
is, amit a nagyon szűkre szabott átadási
határidő indokolt.
A fürdőt 1566–1572 között építette
Szokollu Musztafa budai pasa, aki itt
alakította ki mahalle-központját. A fürdőt
ekkortól folyamatosan használják, alakítják
a kor igényei szerint, bővítik az épületegyüttest.
A mostani felújítás a fürdő
gőzosztályát érintette: a mai előcsarnoktól
északra eső épületrészeket, leszámítva
a Duna fe lőli homlokzatot adó Juventus
kádosztályt. A feltárásra jellemző, hogy főként
azokon a területeken folyt, amelyeket
a felújítás során megbolygatnak, elbontanak,
ezért az teljesnek nem tekinthető.
Ugyanakkor a tervek szerint nagyméretű
földkiemelés szükséges az egykori udvartér
(a mai szaunák – 19, 20, 21, 23, 24. helyiségek
– és a Juventus kádosztály közötti
terület), valamint a kupolatér területén.
Ezért nyílt lehetőségünk a kupolatérben,
illetve az udvartéren nagy felületen, jelentős
mélységekig kutatást végezni. A falak
alaposabb megkutatását a feltételezett
kőfalak bemutatását célzó tervezői elkép-

Archaeological excavation and wall exploration
were started at the bath on the
commission of the Budapest Gyógyfürdői
és Hévizei Rt. on May 13, 2004 (Fig. 1).
The work was linked with the reconstruction
and development of the building.
The building work started in parallel with
the excavation as time was short.
Sokollu Mustafa, pasha of Buda, had
the bath built between 1566 and 1572. He
established his mahalle centre here. From
that time, the bath has been continuously
in use, reconstructed and enlarged
depending on the demands of the moment.
The object of the recent renovation
was the steam department of the bath:
the building parts north of the vestibule
disregarding the Juventus bath-basin
department, facing the Danube. The
excavation especially concentrated in
areas that might be disturbed or damaged
during the course of reconstruction
work, so it was not a complex excavation.
At the same time, there are plans to remove
a large block of earth from the former
courtyard (to date the area between
the saunas—rooms nos. 20, 21, 23 and
24—and the Juventus bath-basin department)
and in the area of the hall under
the dome. Thus, we had the opportunity
to investigate the hall under the dome and
the courtyard over a large surface and to a
