A northeast–southwest oriented stony
stripe (wall?) (feature no. 27) intersected
the road surface and the features of the
AD 2 nd century construction enclosed by
the fencing wall. The feature made from
small stones and tegula fragments, and
sometimes also pottery fragments, which
appeared in sections in widths of only
25–35 cm, belonged to the last period at
the settlement. The storage pit (feature
no. 34) found near the supposed track of
the limes road in the western end of surface
2, was also a late feature as dated by
the Samian ware from the Severus period
found there.
A relatively large number of metal objects
(coins, a bronze bracelet, belt buckle,
brooches, bezelled rings, a stylus etc)
was found (Fig. 5). The coins came from
the period between the rules of Nerva
and Constantine the Great (I owe thanks
to Melinda Torbágy for her identifi cation
of the coins). The late items do not help
us in dating the use and abandonment
of the vicus, since the proximity of the
limes road may also be the reason they
were found here.
Krisztina Szirmai also took part in the
excavation on Panel Road this year, and
I am grateful for her help. The expected
termination of the archaeological fi eld
work in 2005 and the subsequent and
hopefully, fast detailed publication will
provide valuable data on yet another
densely inhabited area of the Albertfalva
auxiliary vicus.
