houses. They did not contain ovens. They
were probably storage spaces.
The outdoor ovens had a baking surface
with a diameter of 120–150 cm. The
mouth was reinforced with stones, which
were often ashlars from the church. Two
entire ovens could be recovered (Fig. 20)
and lifted out under the direction of Judit
Bakay-Perjés. They are being restored.
The restoration of the recovered fi nds is
in progress. The colourful fi nd material,
the large number of intact vessels, the
intact iron objects (stirrups (Fig. 21), arrowheads,
a sword grip, a scythe, a sickle,
a spade-shoe, an adze, pruning knives,
horseshoes, keys, locks, knives), the glass
fragments and the 60 coins evidence a
wealthier lifestyle than would have been
expected in such a rural environment. The
archaeological fi nds show that the village
was established in the middle of the 12 th
century and abandoned during the course
of the 14 th century.
