Elementary Armenian II<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Armenian 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course completes the elementary grammar and includes reading and<br />

comprehension of simple texts, with emphasis on oral expression. It also<br />

includes an introductory study of Armenian culture to complement comprehension<br />

of language.<br />

Elementary Chinese I<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Mandarin Chinese corresponds to the first year of high school Chinese. Pronunciation,<br />

grammar, practical vocabulary, and basic facts on the geography,<br />

customs and culture of China.<br />

CHINESE 2<br />

Elementary Chinese II<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Chinese 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Completes the elementary Mandarin Chinese grammar; introduces reading<br />

and writing of elementary texts.<br />

CHINESE 3<br />

Intermediate Chinese I<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: Chinese 2 or equivalent.<br />

A review of grammar with vocabulary building for conversational fluency,<br />

written composition and advanced reading.<br />

CHINESE 4<br />

Intermediate Chinese II<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: Chinese 3 or equivalent.<br />

Continues a review of grammar, advanced composition and reading of everyday<br />

and literary subjects to study idiomatic expressions.<br />

CHINESE 10<br />

Chinese Civilization<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Geography, history, government, and institutions of China; the life and customs<br />

of the people; the literature and arts, and the contributions to civilization.<br />

Conducted in English.<br />

CHINESE 21<br />

Fundamentals of Chinese I<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Chinese 21 is the first half of Chinese 1. Chinese 22 is the second half of<br />

Chinese 1. This course is designed to provide the basic knowledge of Chinese<br />

grammar for beginners with no preparation.<br />

UC limit: 5 Units from Chinese 21, 22.<br />

CHINESE 22<br />

Fundamentals of Chinese II<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Chinese 21 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course continues the basic knowledge of Chinese Grammar at second<br />

level of the Chinese language for beginners.<br />

UC limit: 5 units from Chinese 21, 22.<br />

FRENCH<br />

One year of high school study in French corresponds to one college semester<br />

of credit or one semester of French at <strong>LACC</strong> equals one full year of high<br />

school credit.<br />

Elementary French I<br />

This course stresses pronunciation and grammar, vocabulary, useful phrases;<br />

and basic facts on the geography, customs and cultures of the French-speaking<br />

world.<br />

FRENCH 2<br />

Elementary French II<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: French 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Completes elementary grammar; including the reading of elementary texts,<br />

and emphasizes the spoken French language.<br />

Conversational French<br />

Prerequisite: French 2 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Provides opportunities for practical conversation on everyday topics, current<br />

events and cultural material.<br />

UC Limit: maximum units: 2 courses.<br />

One year of high school study in Italian corresponds to one college semester<br />

or one semester of college Italian equals one full year of high school study.<br />
