CINEMA 1<br />
Introduction to Motion Picture Production<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Required of all Cinema majors; open to all students.<br />
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />
A comprehensive introduction to film video production techniques and equipment.<br />
Proper procedures are explained for the use of digital and film cameras,<br />
lenses, filters, film stocks, lights, microphones, audio recorders, and<br />
other motion editing picture equipment. Attention is also given to production<br />
planning and post –production as well. Cinema 2 should be taken concurrently<br />
CINEMA 2<br />
Beginning Motion Picture Workshop<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Required of all Cinema majors. Open to all students.<br />
Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours.<br />
Introductory workshop in practical filmmaking. Each student will be responsible<br />
for making several short films in digital video. Cinema 1 should<br />
be taken concurrently.<br />
CINEMA 3<br />
History of Motion Pictures<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Required of all first semester Cinema majors; open to all others.<br />
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />
History of the development of motion pictures, with examples, from their<br />
beginnings to the present day. Emphasis is placed on the American feature<br />
film.<br />
CINEMA 4<br />
History of the Documentary Film<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Required of all first semester Cinema majors; enrollment open to all<br />
others.<br />
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />
The development of films dealing with the truth. Films types seen and<br />
discussed include: historical, animated, propaganda, educational, commercial,<br />
cinema verite and direct cinema. Students will develop critical<br />
standards for judging documentary films.<br />
CINEMA 5<br />
Introduction to Screenwriting<br />
3 UNITS - (RPT 1) (CSU)<br />
Prerequisite: Cinema 1, 2, 3, and 4 with satisfactory grades or better.<br />
Required of all Cinema majors.<br />
