The catalog in your hands represents only one<br />
valuable source of information as you explore<br />
the learning oasis that is <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> City College.<br />
College faculty, staff counselors, financial aid<br />
managers, student services directors, librarians<br />
– we are all here to help you achieve your<br />
educational goals.<br />
Since assuming the <strong>LACC</strong> presidency in June,<br />
I’ve been planning to launch our efforts to<br />
celebrate the 80 th anniversary of the college.<br />
September 2009 is our actual birthday, but look<br />
for celebration activities all year long. Our new<br />
facilities opening this school year – the Martin<br />
Luther King Jr. Library, the Child Development<br />
Building, a unique parking structure/athletic field<br />
and the high tech Science/Technology Building –<br />
reflect a new, modern learning environment that<br />
will carry <strong>LACC</strong> through its next 80 years.<br />
I’m excited to be here as the permanent president<br />
of the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Community College District’s<br />
flagship college, as both my parents attended this<br />
facility. I look forward to continuing to work with<br />
all the faculty and staff in serving our students<br />
and moving <strong>LACC</strong> forward. On behalf of the entire<br />
campus community, I extend my best wishes for<br />
your success at <strong>LACC</strong>, your urban oasis of<br />
learning.<br />
