Calculus I<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 260 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Includes functions and their graphs, limits, continuity, derivatives of functions of<br />

one variable, Mean Value Theorem, integrals, the Fundamental Theorem of<br />

Calculus, differentiation and integration.<br />

MATHEMATICS 262<br />

Calculus II<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 261 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course will cover the study of the differentiation and integration of transcendental<br />

functions, techniques of integration, sequences, infinite series,<br />

and curves in polar coordinates.<br />

MATHEMATICS 263<br />

Calculus III<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 262 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Topics includes: vector calculus, and parametric equations, surfaces, partial<br />

differentiation, gradient, maxima and minima for functions of several variables,<br />

multiple integrals, surface integrals, line integrals, Green’s Theorem, Divergence<br />

Theorem, and Stokes’ Theorem.<br />

Linear Algebra<br />

3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 261 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Advisory: Simultaneous enrollment in Mathematics 262. This course covers<br />

the study of vector spaces, linear transformations, matrices, matrix algebra and<br />

solutions of systems of equations.<br />

MATHEMATICS 272<br />

Methods of Discrete Mathematics<br />

5 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 262 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course stresses mathematical reasoning and the different ways problems<br />

are solved. Interwoven in this course are: mathematical reasoning (logic and<br />

mathematical proofs), algorithm (use of pseudocode), combinatorial analysis<br />

(ability to count), and discrete structures and their basic applications.<br />

MATHEMATICS 275<br />

Ordinary Differential Equations<br />

3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 262 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course examines and applies techniques for solution of ordinary differential<br />

equations including first order equations, linear equations of higher order<br />

and linear systems of equations. Methods of solution include undetermined<br />

coefficients, differential operators, variation of parameters, series solutions,<br />

Laplace Transforms, reduction to first order system and numerical methods<br />

such as Euler’s, Runge-Kutta and multi-step.<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 115 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A study of points, lines, planes, angles, triangles, polygons, circles and areas<br />

of plane regions.<br />

MATHEMATICS 225 Introductory Statistics 3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 125 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Credit allowed for only one of Mathematics 225 and Business 15. Transfer<br />

Limit, UC: Maximum one course from Mathematics 225 and Business 15.<br />

Topics include measures of central tendency, measures of dispersion, normal<br />

distribution, hypothesis testing, correlation and analysis of variance.<br />

MATHEMATICS 235 Finite Mathematics 5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Mathematics 125 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Math 245 is recommended.<br />

Advisory: Mathematics 236 may be taken simultaneously.<br />

Topics include matrix algebra, the Gauss elimination technique for solving<br />

systems of linear equations, linear programming including the simplex<br />

method, probability and financial mathematics.<br />
