Corresponds to the second year of college level Korean. Continues the<br />

fundamentals of pronunciation and grammar, basic vocabulary; useful phrases;<br />

develops the ability to understand, read, write and speak simple Korean. This<br />

course includes basic facts on the geography, customs and cultures or Korea.<br />

Conversational Korean<br />

Prerequisite: Korean 2 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Co-requisite: Korean 99.<br />

Opportunities for practical conversation on everyday topics, current events,<br />

and cultural material.<br />

This course offers the students lectures and discussions in English on geography,<br />

Completes elementary Russian I. Emphasis on reading and spoken language.<br />

Intermediate Russian I<br />

Prerequisite: Russian 2 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A review of grammar, additional training in oral and written composition, and<br />

reading of more advanced literature.<br />

RUSSIAN 4<br />

Intermediate Russian II<br />

Prerequisite: Russian 3 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course continues the review of grammar and vocabulary build-up. It<br />

continues to introduce students to Russian life through the reading of selected<br />

Russian authors.<br />

Conversational Russian<br />

Prerequisites: Russian 3 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Practical conversation in Russian on everyday topics, and current events,<br />

dialogues and group discussion of news in politics, sports, and culture.<br />

Russian Civilization<br />

A survey of Russian civilization from the early stages to the present, highlighting<br />

important historical and cultural developments, social institutions,<br />

religion, literature, art, music and Russia’s contribution to the world.<br />

Russian Civilization II<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

A survey of Russian history and culture of 20th century Russia; its literature,<br />

arts and science; and life of the people.<br />

RUSSIAN 21<br />

Fundamentals of Russian I<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Russian 21 and 22 together are equivalent to Russian 1 at <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> City<br />

College.<br />

Russian 21 is the first half of Russian 1. Russian 22 is the second half of<br />

Russian 1. Russian 21 focuses on pronunciation, basic grammar, practical<br />

vocabulary and phrases. Discussions of Russia’s geography, customs, and<br />

culture are included.<br />

RUSSIAN 22<br />

Fundamentals of Russian II<br />

3 UNITS – (UC: CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Russian 21 and Russian 22 together are equivalent to Russian I. Russian<br />

22 continues to focus on pronunciation, basic grammar, practical vocabulary<br />

and phrases, begun in Russian 21. Students will also continue to discuss<br />

Russia’s history and culture.<br />

SPANISH<br />

One year of high school study in Spanish corresponds to one college semester<br />

or one college semester equals one full year of high school study.<br />

Required courses: Spanish 1*, 2*, 3, 4 and 8*. These courses are required<br />

only for students who plan to teach Spanish.<br />

SPANISH 1<br />

Elementary Spanish I<br />

5 UNITS - (UC: CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28 or equivalent.<br />

Pronunciation and grammar, practical vocabulary, useful phrases; basic facts<br />

on the geography, customs and culture of the Spanish-speaking world.<br />

UC accepts one of Spanish 1 or equivalent.<br />

SPANISH 2<br />

Elementary Spanish II<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 1 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Completes elementary Spanish I with emphasis on reading and writing of<br />

elementary texts and emphasizes the spoken language.<br />

SPANISH 3<br />

Intermediate Spanish I<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 2 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A review of grammar and idiomatic construction. Also, an introduction to<br />

Spanish and Spanish American writers through readings of short stories, as<br />

well as a review of cultural aspects relative to the Spanish-speaking world.
