The Administration of Justice programs are designed to prepare students<br />

to enter careers as Police Officers, Deputy Sheriffs; Highway Patrol<br />

Offices; Forensic Specialists; Police <strong>As</strong>sistants; Fingerprint Experts;<br />

Custodial Officers; Probation/Parole Officers; Private Investigators;<br />

Insurance Investigators and Financial Investigators with private agencies.<br />

The programs are “hands-on” oriented to expose students to the<br />

fundamental concepts and tasks of law enforcement and ready them for<br />

employment. Additionally, our graduates are better prepared for the<br />

qualification and screening process required to enter law enforcement<br />

academies such as the <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Police Department Academy.<br />

Internship opportunities include: <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> Police Department, <strong>Los</strong><br />

<strong>Angeles</strong> Sheriff’s Department, District Attorneys Office, Coroner’s Office<br />

and Probation/Parole Offices.<br />

In addition to being in high demand with plentiful opportunities for<br />

advancement, law enforcement professionals earn strong salaries.<br />

Officers typically earn more than support personnel. Patrol officers, on<br />

average, earn from $51,000 and $64,000.<br />

Career or Transfer Program<br />

The Administration of Justice curriculum is offered by the Law Department to<br />

students who are interested in a career as a law enforcement officer or in a<br />

related field.<br />

Plan B Students<br />

To complete Graduation Requirements “Plan B” for the <strong>As</strong>sociate degree, 36<br />

units of the courses listed below must be completed. Students must take the<br />

core units in Administration of Justice and may choose a specialization area<br />

such as: Correction Institutional Officer Training, Evidence Technician/Forensics<br />

or Private Investigation.<br />

Plan A Students<br />

Students planning to transfer should take the core units- plus Corrections 1.<br />

(This course may substitute for AJ 382) Consult with a College counselor<br />

for specific general education requirements and/or Graduation Requirements<br />

under “Plan A” for the <strong>As</strong>sociate degree. Consult with the department chair<br />

for substitution of classes to meet core requirements.<br />

Students who have successfully completed academic training with local or<br />

state law enforcement agencies may receive <strong>Los</strong> <strong>Angeles</strong> City College credit<br />

for their Academy courses. These college credits may be applied toward a<br />

certificate in Administration of Justice or toward an <strong>As</strong>sociate in Arts degree.<br />

These courses also transfer to CSULA as lower division requirements in the<br />

Criminal Justice major<br />
