This course is an introductory examination of the Earth’s human<br />
environment. Emphasis is on the description, analysis, and explanation of<br />
human population distributions; human cultural trait distribution; patterns<br />

A continuation of History I focusing on the period from the French Revolution<br />
to the present.<br />

History of the Americas I<br />

Covers pre-Columbian civilizations, the discovery and eventual European<br />
conquest, exploration, and colonization of the New World and the preindependence<br />
movements. It will detail the cultural characteristics of the<br />
people of the Caribbean, the Aztecs, Maya, Inca and Brazilian civilizations,<br />
the early, middle, and mature colonial periods, the enlightenment and U.S.<br />
and French independence movements. U.S. political institutions will also be<br />
covered.<br />

History of the Americas II<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
This course will cover the Independence, national and modern periods of<br />
Latin American history (1800-present) in general, and specifically, the<br />
Enlightenment era of Europe, and the U.S. and French Revolutions. It will<br />
detail the socio-political and economic processes of the new nations. The<br />
19th century conflicts with the U.S. and will focus on the national building<br />
era. It will culminate with the modern era, 20th century and Reform or<br />
Revolution of the area.<br />

History of the American West<br />
3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />
Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />
This course will trace the development of the American West from the 1600’s<br />
(Spanish exploration) through the 20th century. Emphasis will be placed on<br />
the multi-cultural settlement of the region. Students will complete assignments<br />
via the internet including panel discussions, and web searches.<br />

A study of selected issues in contemporary world affairs from the perspective<br />
of the U.S. Class topics include a review of the formulation of American<br />
foreign policy; the Vietnam War and its’ lessons; the nuclear; and the role<br />
of diplomacy and negotiations in resolving various international problems.
