This non credit open entry/exit course will introduce students to proper and<br />

effective study habits. Students will develop the expertise and proficiency<br />

which will enable them to be master’s of their study time. This course is<br />

designed for high-level ESL students who are ready to transfer to vocational<br />

education departments on campus in pursuit of their educational goals. It is<br />

also for those who need a review of what is means to be a successful student.<br />

At the end of the course you will be prepared for academic coursework and<br />

have the confidence to succeed in any college level course.<br />

Workplace Communication: Leadership Skills and<br />

This course will introduce you to the skills sets that everyone needs in order<br />

to be self-directed. You can be a powerful agent for change, an influencer<br />

This open-entry/exit course is designed to reinforce the importance of<br />

communication in the workplace. The topics covered include but are not<br />

limited to: project communication, expectations, closeout reporting and easy<br />

templates. The curriculum is modifiable for incumbent workers and dislocated<br />

workers seeking employment.<br />

Retailing Smarts: Customer Service and Sales<br />

This course is designed to introduce prospective workers to the field of retail<br />

and/or reinforce skills and strategies necessary for achieving customer<br />

satisfaction by incumbent workers in the industry. The curriculum is provided<br />

by the National Retail Federation (NRF). After completing the training, you<br />

have the option to take an online exam provided by the NRF, upon a passing<br />

score, students will receive a Certification in Customer Service and Sales<br />

which is recognized nationally.<br />

The <strong>LACC</strong> Workforce Readiness Academy was voted “Best Workforce<br />

Development Program” at the LA Community College District’s<br />

Excellence in Workforce Development Awards, held in May 2008.<br />

The District’s eighth annual event also honored the program with a<br />

first place trophy in the category “Successful Encouragement of<br />

Special Populations.” This academy is a vital part of <strong>LACC</strong> and is<br />

courses are taught in the City College at Wilshire building, 3020<br />

Wilshire Blvd. The program is focused on non-credit workforce<br />

education and enables students to enter various career ladder<br />

pathways.
