Nursing Pharmacology<br />

First semester nursing students will acquire introductory knowledge about<br />

the most frequently prescribed medications their side effects and possible<br />

interactions that are used in health care setting today.<br />

Nursing Foundations<br />

Prerequisite: Math 115, English 101, Physiology 1, and Microbiology 20<br />

First semester nursing students will acquire introductory knowledge about<br />

theoretical concepts and fundamental skills required for safe patient care.<br />

Students will learn and apply the Roy Adaptation Model nursing process as<br />

the conceptual, frame work for practice. Students will develop enhanced<br />

critical thinking and psychomotor skills during the clinical component.<br />

Beginning Medical-Surgical Nursing<br />

5 UNITS – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Nursing, Registered 104 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Students will acquire enhanced knowledge about the Roy Adaptation Model<br />

nursing process and implement this as the framework for nursing care.<br />

Students will develop introductory knowledge and understanding of common<br />

medical-surgical health problems. The student will apply theoretical<br />

concepts and nursing skills in the clinical setting.<br />

Nursing Care of the Childbearing Family<br />

4 UNITS – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Nursing, Registered 105 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Nursing students will learn about and manage nursing care of culturally<br />

diverse families experiencing reproductive health, childbearing, and breast<br />

and reproductive system cancers. Students will apply the Roy Adaptation<br />

Model nursing process as the framework for nursing care.<br />

Nursing Care of the Pediatric Client<br />

4 UNITS – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Nursing, Registered 105 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Utilizing the Roy Adaptation Model and the nursing process, students will<br />

focus on the nursing care of children of various ages and their families.<br />

The student will understand and apply concepts that include disease<br />

process, medical treatments, nursing responsibilities, and interventions,<br />

cultural, ethical, and legal issues to the pediatric population.<br />

Nursing Care of the Client with Psychosocial Needs<br />

4 UNITS – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Nursing, Registered 107 with a satisfactory grade and approved<br />

second year status in RN program.<br />

The student will correlate theoretical knowledge and clinical experience in<br />

the care of the psychiatric patient in the acute care and outpatient settings.<br />

The student will provide client care in the psychiatric in-patient and outpatient<br />

settings. The student will emphasize holistic care for clients with mental<br />

health problems, cognitive disorders and/or difficulties in coping with<br />

problems of daily living.<br />

Intermediate Medial-Surgical Nursing<br />

Prerequisite: Nursing, Registered 106 and Nursing, Registered 107 with a<br />

satisfactory grade and approved second year status in RN program. The<br />

student will apply theoretical concepts and clinical skills to address the<br />

needs of the adult and older adult client with increasingly complex medicalsurgical<br />

health problems. Students will focus on the bio-psycho-social impact<br />

of illness across the life span and nursing interventions to promote client<br />

Advanced Medical-Surgical Nursing<br />

5 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

In this advanced nursing course, students will understand and apply<br />

advanced theoretical and clinical nursing concepts in the care of medicalsurgical<br />

patients with complex problems. Students will acquire translational<br />

knowledge about complex concepts that include ECG monitoring, beginning<br />

ventilatory management, hemodynamic monitoring, care of the client with<br />

multisystem failure, and nursing care in emergency situations. Students<br />

will apply theoretical knowledge across all specialty<br />

care settings.<br />

Nursing Leadership and Management<br />

4 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Students will explores, understand, and apply the legal, ethical and current<br />

tissues and trends that affect the Registered Nurse today within the context<br />

of the Roles of Practice. Students will complete a 108 hour clinical<br />

preceptorship in an acute care setting.<br />

The student will participate in this weekly 3 hour adjunct, laboratory course<br />

to practice procedures and skills learned in concurrent Fundamentals and<br />

Beginning Medical-Surgical Nursing theory and clinical courses.<br />

The student will participate in this weekly 3 hour laboratory course to practice<br />

theory and clinical courses.<br />

Role Transition LVN to RN (When Available)<br />

The Licensed Vocational Nurse will develop necessary skills to make a<br />

successful transition to the role of RN student to pursue an RN license. The<br />
