Fundamentals of Elementary Spanish II<br />

3 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 123 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course provides the student with a continuation of study in grammar<br />

and vocabulary at an elementary level as well as the art of composition<br />

writing and cultural analysis.<br />

Spanish 123 and 124 are equal to Spanish 2.<br />

UC limit: Maximum units 5.<br />

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS<br />

NOTE: Not every class is offered each semester. Refer to the current class<br />

schedule for current class offerings.<br />

PREREQUISITES: Specified prerequisites must be completed with a satisfactory<br />

grade or equivalent.<br />

TRANSFER INFORMATION:<br />

Physical Science Requirement: Earth Science 1, Geography 1, Geography<br />

3, Geography 15, Geology 1, Geology 6, Meteorology 3, and Oceanography<br />

1 each satisfy the IGETC and CSU general education requirements for<br />

physical science.<br />

Physical Science w/ Lab Requirement: Geography 1 taken with Geography<br />

15 and Geology 1 taken with Geology 6 both satisfy the IGETC and CSU<br />

general education requirements for a physical science with a laboratory.<br />

Social & Behavioral Science Requirement: Geography 2 statisfies the<br />

IGETC and CSU social and behavioral sciences requirement.<br />

EARTH SCIENCE 1<br />

Earth Science<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course is a general introduction to the study of the earth’s rocks, landforms,<br />

atmosphere, and oceans. The course content is most closely related<br />

to that of Physical Geology, but is somewhat broader and less detailed, and<br />

includes a description of earth history.<br />

GEOGRAPHY 1<br />

Physical Geography<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course is an introductory examination of the basic physical scientific<br />

principles of geography as they relate to Earth-Sun relationships: weather;<br />

climate; land forms; soil; and natural vegetation. Emphasis is on the integration<br />

of these factors and world distribution.<br />

Cultural Elements of Geography<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course is an introductory examination of the Earth’s human environment.<br />

Emphasis is on the description, analysis, and explanation of human<br />

population distributions; human cultural trait distribution; patterns of rural<br />

land-use and settlement; patterns of agriculture and industry; and world urban<br />

development.<br />

GEOGRAPHY 3 (Same as Meteorology 3)<br />

Introduction To Weather and Climate<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 3 hours<br />

This course examines the physical laws which relate to the causes of weather<br />

phenomena and distribution of climate types. The role of solar energy is<br />

emphasized.<br />

GEOGRAPHY 15<br />

Physical Geography Laboratory<br />

3 UNITS – (UC:CSU)<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

May be taken concurrently with Geography 1 --This course will involve the<br />

student in the description, analysis, explanation, and representation of natural<br />

phenomena such as Earth-Sun relationships; Earth representation on<br />

maps, aerial photos, and satellite images; measurement of atmospheric temperature,<br />

moisture, and pressure; soil types; natural vegetation; land form<br />

evolution by tectonic, erosional and depositional forces. The course involves<br />

1 hour of laboratory - lecture and 2 hours of laboratory work.<br />

Note: Geography 15 may be taken concurrently with Geography 1.
