Training in television announcing for newscasts, adlibbing, commercials,<br />

sports, weather and various other assignments.<br />

Introduction to TV Equipment Procedures<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

A required basic course for all first semester TV majors.<br />

Open to all students. Lecture 3 hours<br />

The principles and operational techniques of basic television control room<br />

and studio equipment leading to first production of spots. Fundamental<br />

physical properties of sound, light and electricity, TV control room procedure,<br />

directing, script writing, story boarding and other producing tools.<br />

TELEVISION 25<br />

Television and Film Dramatic Writing<br />

3 UNITS - (RPT 1) (CSU)<br />

Open to all students. Lecture 3 hours<br />

Professional methods and techniques of television writing for drama or<br />

comedy on film and tape. Also deals with obtaining an agent and selling<br />

a script.<br />

Television Production<br />

3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Television 9 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Advisory: Television 4<br />

Required of all Television majors.<br />

Lecture 2 hour. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

Directing, writing, performing; use of cameras, recorders, switcher, character<br />

generator, lighting and audio equipment.<br />

Television Programming and Video Tape Production<br />

Workshop<br />

3 UNITS - (RPT 1) (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Television 46 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Required of all Television majors. CITIZENSHIP<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory English 2 hours. as a Second<br />

TV Production Workshop<br />

Prerequisites: Television 46 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Lecture 2 hour. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

Training in the technical aspects of television production, including<br />

lighting, camera, videotape and character generator. No script writing or<br />

producing, this class is for technical crew only.<br />

TELEVISION 55<br />

Digital Video Production Workshop I<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Cinema 1, 2, and Television 4, 9.<br />

Lecture 1 hour. Laboratory 4 hours.<br />

Intermediate television students will produce short video projects using<br />

basic digital video cameras and editing systems.<br />

Non-linear Editing With Final Cut Pro<br />

3 UNITS - (A)<br />

Prerequisite: Television 55 with a satisfactory grade.<br />

Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours.<br />

Advanced film students are introduced to Macintosh Final Cut Pro nonlinear<br />

software and are given lectures on film-to video and other postproduction<br />

procedures.<br />

TELEVISION 185 Directed Study — 1 UNIT - (CSU)<br />

TELEVISION 285 Directed Study — 2 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

TELEVISION 385 Directed Study — 3 UNITS - (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Television 9, 46 and 6 or 48 with satisfactory grades or<br />

better. Courses limited to advanced <strong>LACC</strong> Television Students. Courses<br />

offered on a Credit/No Credit basis.<br />

Conference 1 hour per unit.<br />

Allows students to pursue Directed Study on a contract basis under the<br />

direction of a supervising instructor. Refer to the “Directed Study” section<br />

of this catalog for additional information. Credit Limit: A maximum of 3<br />

units in Directed Study may be taken for credit.<br />
