Advanced Spanish I<br />

5 UNITS - (UC: CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 4 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Advisory: English 28/31 or equivalent.<br />

A study of the short story and poetry in Spanish and Spanish-American traditions.<br />

In addition, “students” written and oral expressions are enhanced<br />

through the writing of essays based on topics extracted from readings; these<br />

are then addressed in round-table discussions. Further exploration of grammatical<br />

concepts and expression of vocabulary are based on the readings<br />

and written assignments.<br />

Advanced Spanish II<br />

5 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 5 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Continues the study of literary genres in Spanish-American traditions with a<br />

focus on the essay and the theatre. The latter is approached as both a literary<br />

and performing art. Writing and oral expression are also an integral part<br />

of the course and are achieved through the writing of essays and roundtable<br />

discussions. Grammatical and vocabulary expressions are based on<br />

the reading and written assignments.<br />

Conversational Spanish<br />

Prerequisite: Spanish 2 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

Practical conversation on everyday topics, current events and cultural material.<br />

Offers practical material for simple conversation based on every day experiences.<br />

Spanish 21 and Spanish 22 together are equivalent to Spanish 1.<br />

Continues the presentation of the fundamentals of Spanish pronunciation<br />

to Spanish 1. Class assignments will require .05 hours TBA per week in<br />

the Foreign Language Laboratory - DH319.<br />

Fundamentals of Elementary Spanish I<br />

This course provides the students with a continuation of the study of grammar<br />

and vocabulary at an elementary level as well as the art of composition<br />

writing and cultural analysis.
