Music Voice Practice Lab<br />

0.50 UNITS - (RPT 3)<br />

Co-requisite: Either Music 400, 401, 402 or 403.<br />

This course allows students currently enrolled in any of the co-requisite voice<br />

classes to use the lab equipment and materials to enhance applicable skills<br />

necessary for success.<br />

MUSIC 431<br />

Commercial Voice I<br />

1 UNIT – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Music 400 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A continued concentration of general basic fundamentals of singing using<br />

vocal exercises and songs selected from the commercial song literature.<br />

Course includes coaching sessions with class accompanist. (If the prerequisite<br />

is not met, enrollment is subject to audition. See Auditions box.)<br />

MUSIC 432<br />

Commercial Voice II<br />

1 UNIT – (CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Music 431 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A concentrated study of the singing voice using more difficult vocal exercises<br />

and songs from the many areas of commercial vocal music. Stylistic<br />

interpretation and performance practices will be emphasized. Course includes<br />

coaching sessions with class accompanist. (If the prerequisite is not met,<br />

Prerequisite: Music 432 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

of the stylistic interpretations and performance practices of the many areas<br />

Musical Theater Repertoire For Singers<br />

Prerequisite: Either Music 401 or 431 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

A continued concentration of general basic fundamentals of singing concentrating<br />

on vocal techniques as utilized in Musical Theater. Additional instruction<br />

will include basic body movement, acting techniques and Musical Theater<br />

College Choir<br />

This course consists of the study and performance of selected choral literature<br />

for mixed voices. Emphasis is on increased skill in music reading, development<br />

of basic voice and ensemble techniques, and improving musicianship.<br />

This course includes the learning, understanding, and performing a cappella<br />

and accompanied SATB choral music selected from the 16th through the<br />

20th century traditional choral music in English and other languages, sacred<br />

and secular, commercial, and contemporary styles and periods. Public performance<br />

Music Piano Practice Lab<br />

This course consists of analyzing, rehearsing, and performing choral literature<br />

for the large choir. Materials range from the Renaissance to Contemporary.<br />

This course deals with analyzing, rehearsing, and performing choral music<br />

suited to a small group of singers, with and without accompaniment.<br />

Emphasis is on increased skill in music reading and interpreting the musical<br />

score, and on professional attitudes toward public performance.<br />

Brass Instrument Instruction I<br />

Open to all students. This course consists of basic instruction on the brass<br />

instruments: trumpet, French horn, trombone, and tuba. Some instruments<br />

Brass Instrument Instruction II<br />

2 UNITS - (UC:CSU)<br />

Prerequisite: Music 601 with a satisfactory grade or equivalent.<br />

This course is a continuation of Music 601 with emphasis on the development<br />

of embouchure, range, endurance, and music reading skills. (If prerequisite<br />
