Transfer Program<br />
The following curriculum is an interdisciplinary studies sequence that brings<br />
together art, music, history, literature, and cultural studies. It provides a<br />
strong foundation for a wide range of undergraduate majors, including the<br />
arts, literature, history, world cultures as well as ethnic and gender studies.<br />
A minimum of 18 units of Arts and Humanities is required for the Humanities<br />
major <strong>As</strong>sociate Degree. Requirements for the major are to be chosen from<br />
the Plan A Graduation requirements under the Humanities section.<br />
COURSES UNITS<br />
HUMANITIES - ARTS: 3 units from any of the following<br />
African American Studies, Architecture, Art, <strong>As</strong>ian American Studies,<br />
Chicano Studies, Cinema, Music, Photography, Theater<br />
HUMANITIES - LITERATURE: 3 units from any of the following<br />
African American Studies, English<br />
HUMANITIES 3-5 units from any of the following<br />
FOREIGN LANGUAGE:<br />
All courses in Arabic, Armenian, Chinese, Filipino, French, German,<br />
Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish<br />
HUMANITIES - HUMANITIES: 6 units from any of the following<br />
Humanities 6, 8, 20, 30, 31, 45, 47, 61, 63,<br />
Elective Units: Choose from any course listed under any section to bring<br />
total to a minimum of 18 units<br />

Introduction to ideas and methods in the Humanities. Exploration of the way<br />
in which individuals and groups create meaning in their lives and in the world<br />
around them.<br />

Introduction to ideas and methods in gender studies. Exploration of changing<br />
gender identities of men and women in society.<br />

Japanese Civilization<br />

A survey of Japanese civilization from ancient times to the present; the historical<br />
and cultural backgrounds; significant aspects of Japanese culture;<br />
religion, philosophy, socio political institutions and art forms.<br />

Introduction to Ancient Cultures and World Religions. Examination of the<br />
foundational texts, art and ideas of ancient India, China, the Middle East,<br />
Egypt and Greece.<br />

Examinations of the cultural encounters between European culture and the<br />
